I like to think that I’m naturally organised. I can remember dates and appointments easily and can make sure that tasks are completed on time. This is something that I pride myself on. Another thing I’m quite naturally good at is procrastinating – this is something I’m NOT proud of!
There are so many things going on in one day that sometimes I just don’t know where to start. I used to fall behind with washing clothes, clearing the utility room and the dusting. I felt unproductive and frustrated. Sound familiar?
Since then I’ve started to use the ‘unbroken X’ to help me keep on top of my hectic daily life. In case you haven’t heard of it it’s a technique that Jeremy Seinfeld used to help improve his jokes and it can be used for you too – even when you don’t feel it!
The idea is continue with a habit each day, week or month and mark it off with a cross/tick once completed. After a few days you’ll have a chain of ticks/crosses and they’ll grow longer each time you complete the task. The idea then is to not break the chain – perfect for those who love goals!
And you know what? IT WORKS!
You know when you religiously stick to a healthy regime and jump on the scale to find you’ve even lost more weight. It’s rewarding right? It’s the same with the ‘unbroken X’ technique. Watching the X’s build up and the benefits that come with it from sticking to your habit, it’s addicting!
Let’s remember to be realistic though! While it’s great to push yourself, expecting a daily habit to include a 5 km run when you’re self-proclaimed coach potato is not going to work. Start with something easy such as waking up 10 minutes earlier, having a glass of water first thing in the morning and reading a chapter a night.
To help, I’m offering this FREE printable to help track your progress. There are three versions included – a daily/weekly habit tracker and a monthly habit tracker. These are available in A5 and A4/Letter.

I hope that these printables help you to find and stick to a new habit which will benefit you whatever your goal is! I’d love to see how they’re working for you so share it online and tag me in. Let’s see who can have the most unbroken X’s!
